What to do…

January 8, 2009

Special thanks to my Jewish brother Musa for all his help with this! :)

I had an idea for helping the Palestinians. People from around the world are calling people in Gaza to support them emotionally. But I think it is about time, people from around the world started calling the citizens of Israel, to tell them to call upon their government to stop it’s slaughter, to open a door of dialogue and to make them think and question the bloody history of their country. It’s time we get our voice heard to the people who need to hear it most!

This is important because once you get people talking the barriers will begin to fall down quicker and quicker. It’s silent fear of each other that causes tensions. Be courteous! And if there is an argument, repeat yourself over and over, but also try to understand where they are coming from so they will be receptive to what you have to say. It’s a dialogue, not a monologue and one step towards peace. Share your perspective, even if it’s just the perspective of a fellow human being.

Start off by saying, “Shalom” and then speak to them. Most Israelis speak English, at least basic English and just like any group of people, they have different views. Some are against what their government is doing, while others who are Zionist are not aware of what is happening. They are normal human beings, so don’t let all the hatred and carnage allow you to dehumanize them. Just talk to them and get them to at least THINK about what is happening and how they can stop it through social change within Israel.

This is for the crisis in Gaza right now. With time, we will eventually be able to create the same level of dialogue and shatter Palestinian perception of Israelis.
